Lazy days
This new holiday home, winner of a Resene award, recalls summer days under canvas
Nostalgia is a strong design influence, especially when it comes to reminiscing about family holidays. This new holiday home, winner of a Resene Total Colour Residential Exterior Maestro Award, was inspired by campsites and lazy summer days spent under canvas.
The original family cottage on site was relocated next door to make way for the new home, which was designed as a series of connected pavilions or tents. These are grouped around a central gathering space much like the heart of a campsite.
The designers at Pacific Environments introduced accents of bright red, with Resene Burgundy providing a link to the native pohutukawa tree. This is a favourite of the client's and a tree with a close association with the beach and Christmas festivities. Resene Burgundy also appears on the interior, with Resene Half Linen and Resene Seashell providing a neutral backdrop and calming influence.
The judges of the Resene award say they particularly admired the totem pole design, and the way colour brings this architectural feature to life and helps to integrate the exterior and interior.
Pilkington Interiors, an accredited Resene Eco Decorator, painted the house.
