Do it once, do it well. It's a mantra that could well be applied to bathroom design. With the right fixtures and fittings, you can enjoy a luxurious retreat that will last a lifetime.
Luxe Home® at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago showcases many such products in eye-catching bathroom settings. From tubs and faucets to tiles and accessories, every item has been selected for its high level of functionality as well as its aesthetics.
Katherine M Flaherty, Merchandise Mart vice president building products and special projects, says there is often a misconception that luxurious products sacrifice durability and functionality.
"As the products seen here show, this is simply not the case. For example, the Urban Archaeology bathtub, which was inspired by tubs designed in the 1940s, makes a dramatic visual statement. But it is also highly durable it is made from a single block of honed marble, and will keep its good looks."
Flaherty says the tub is also particularly comfortable to bathe in, as the solid marble retains the water temperature.
Another tub guaranteed to make a strong visual impact is the Chelsea from Hastings Tile and Bath.
"This sleek, freestanding tub is made from lightweight resin," says Flaherty. "Because the resin is a solid surface it is also highly durable. If it does get scratched, it can be repaired easily. Resin is also easy to clean and will not stain."
Environmentally friendly products on display at The Merchandise Mart include Fina faucets from ShowHouse by Moen. These faucets are designed to use 30% less water than standard faucets, and meet WaterSense® and LEED® requirements.
Another new product creating plenty of attention is the spa-like Kohler Escale suite, shown here with the 24in makeup vanity and Demi-Lav wading sink an all-in-one unit.
