Having the right kitchen designer on board can mean your new kitchen will have better connections to other areas of your home even unlocking areas not fully utilised. When respected designer Kira Gray came to this project, the existing small, dark kitchen was disconnected from an under-used family room."It lacked storage and was essentially too small for this masonry home," she says.In its place, the owners requested a large, traditional, French-inspired design with modern accents. They also wanted it to be a social hub, integrating with the family room and rear yard. This new scullery houses the fridge, small appliances, shelves and a drinks station. The elegant mirror tile splashback links back to the kitchen splashback. "Overall, they wanted a warm elegant space cosy, comfortable and glamorous," says Gray.To achieve all of this, walls were removed and repositioned to combine the disconnected spaces. The new kitchen faces to the courtyard, creating an easy flow to the exterior."I then created display and storage cabinetry with colonial detailing and a mirror tile splashback, centred on the classic oven and hob."The island's chamfered posts and skirtings, further the colonial look. The island has a prep sink and lowered children's homework table. This kitchen renovation by award-winning designer Kira Gray has improved links to the outdoors and added a new family seating area. "A corner upholstered booth seat provides casual family room seating and a round French cafe style table with a stone top was painted to link with the kitchen."Ultimately, the kitchen oozes glamour with crystal chandeliers, crystal-look stools, and shiny brass tapware and handles. Rich timber floors add warmth to the now high-functioning space.Contact Kira Gray, Fyfe Kitchens, phone: 027 271 4705, email: kira@fyfekitchens.co.nz, or head online: www.fyfekitchens.co.nz Story by: Trendsideas 25 Oct, 2017 Kitchen Trendsideas Home kitchen bathroom commercial design Latest Post Collaboration and connection 17 Nov, 2024 Memories of the Alhambra 17 Nov, 2024 Stone, wood and metal 17 Nov, 2024 We know the Specialists Related Book More Books > Home Trends Vol. 33/6 Renovating a tired and dated kitchen will not only add to your enjoyment of cooking – it can also totally transform the ...
