Keeping dry
Effective protection against moisture damage is a key feature of Scyon¢ Secura¢ wet area flooring
Paying attention to the unseen and finer details of a project helps to avoid possible problems that may mean the work has to be redone later.
In the bathroom, moisture is one of the most common causes of problems. So, whether you're building a new bathroom or renovating an existing one, big costs can be saved by considering the unseen layer beneath the floor tiles, before you focus on the finishes and accessories.
When waterproofing fails, tile adhesion is reduced, which may cause tiles to crack, bulge and pop off. A slow, undetected leak here can soak into and rot bearers and joints in the bathroom and, eventually, in other areas of the house.
Scyon¢ Secura¢ wet area flooring is an internal wet area structural flooring substrate made from Scyon, a lightweight, heavy-duty cement composite. It is designed to sit over timber or lightweight steel floor joists and directly beneath floor tiles.
The moisture resistance of Secura wet area flooring means there's no need for full floor waterproofing outside enclosed shower areas, and it can be installed up to three months before the roof goes on even if it rains during that time.
The product offers savings in construction time because it is simple to cut, and its tongue-and-groove jointing can slot neatly into other 19mm flooring products that may be used nearby. In addition, Secura wet area flooring is about 20% lighter than conventional 15mm HardiPanel® compressed sheets, making it easy for builders to handle.
When correctly installed and maintained, Secura wet area flooring has a 10-year product warranty.
