Expansive glazing is a distinctive architectural feature of most new homes and apartments. But while large windows maximise the view and natural light, the sunlight needs to be carefully controlled to prevent overheating and UV damage.

The new Greenscreen® Generation sunscreens, for example, are designed for residential and commercial applications, and are well suited to the harsh Australian climate. Genevieve Marshall, marketing manager for Hunter Douglas Commercial, says the Greenscreen Generation sunscreen fabrics reduce heat and glare, and block out UV rays.

"In doing so, the sunscreens reduce the demand for air conditioning, which in turn reduces electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions."

Marshall says many of the sunscreens are woven and manufactured in Australia, which further enhances their environmental sustainability. The sunscreens have other advantages, too when used in a dual roller blind application with a blockout blind, they still allow people to appreciate the view.

Greenscreen Generation sunscreens are made from a low-VOC polyester fabric. This can be recycled for specified and limited applications the fabric is shredded into shoddy fibres and blended with other selected fibres, depending on the intended end use of the recycled yarn.

As with all Hunter Douglas products, the blinds are simple to use, easy to maintain and come in a variety of colours and styles.
