Italian heritage new Smeg Cortina collection

There's no doubt modern technology has changed our kitchens for good, but this doesn't mean we also have to sacrifice all the old traditions.

Just as the recipes of our grandmothers are handed down through generations, so are the traditional skills of the Italian blacksmith being passed on.

Smeg's new Cortina range of appliances was inspired by this heritage in particular by the long artisan tradition of skilled blacksmiths working with iron high up in the Italian mountains.

Developed in conjunction with master blacksmith Giancarlo Candeago, the Cortina appliance collection reflects great attention to detail.

The Cortina ovens and hobs recall the refined detailing of wrought iron objects. Combined with high-quality materials and a polished finish, the appliances present a whole new aesthetic for the kitchen. For example, the artisan detailing includes an eye-catching double inlay, which can best be seen in the decorative, arched curve of the oven door.

The Cortina gas hobs also convey a firm sense of tradition, and, like the multifunction ovens, they feature the latest cooking technology, including an 5kW ultra-fast burner and flame-failure safety. The hob is available in a 70cm five-burner configuration. And both the cooktop and the oven are available in Cream, Copper and Anthracite.
