It's all in the detail - Project management of Auckland Art Gallery by Coffey Projects

Just as the Auckland Art Gallery showcases the most significant art collections, so does it highlight the most exacting architecture and fine craftsmanship.

Coffey Projects, the company responsible for the project management, says right from the outset it was clear that the minimalist design of the gallery would involve great attention to detail. Project manager Syd Jones says the exacting construction tolerances and the fact that there was no repetition of floorplates added to the complexity.

"Every gallery space was unique in its design and special features," he says. "The space was also very compact, and the myriad services needed to be concealed, which added to the challenge."

Jones says Coffey Projects was contracted at the outset of the project to advise and assist with the development of the project brief and scope of works. The company appointed and managed the design consultants, managed and advised on the construction procurement process and administered the construction and close-out. The work included developing and monitoring risk schedules, and managing the project's macro and micro programme requirements for various related activities.
