Into the blue

Too much space can be as challenging as too little when it comes to creating a pool landscape. For this project, the design team needed to create a large outdoor living courtyard for a contemporary home that was sitting forlornly in the centre of an undeveloped lifestyle block.

The solution was a classically inspired, sheltered courtyard with a colonnade, timber pergola and a swimming pool built by Mayfair Pools agent Alan Judd of Mayfair Pools Manawatu.

Structural planting in raised planters visually softens the plaster wall behind the colonnade, and conceals the pool plant room. Other key features of the landscape include coloured concrete coping that has been cut to resemble flagstones.

The formal symmetry of the pool is enhanced by shaped corners, one accommodating a seat, and the other steps. The pool has a Pisa Blue interior, and is equipped with a salt chlorinator and a heat pump.
