Into the blue
To balance the grandeur of this imposing residence, the designer specified a large pool from Mayfair Pools
Formal architecture demands a similar landscaping response. Such projects are often characterised by a sense of symmetry and simple, clean lines.
For this project, there was a need to balance the large scale of the house with a suitably sized pool. Mayfair Pools agent Richard Rowley of Designer Pools says the solution was a 14.7m x 6.8m pool positioned at an intermediate level between the upper house terrace, which surrounds the family room, and the lower garden, which features a pond.
"As the pool is mainly viewed from the upper house terrace, it was important to create a symmetrical layout," Rowley says. "The custom-built spa is an essential feature, which sits in the centre of similarly proportioned pool and patio areas."
Rowley says the wide steps and seating at each end of pool were designed to be an inviting place to sit in the cooling water, where the owners could enjoy the view over the pond and subtropical garden.
Mayfair Pools specialises in custom-built fibreglass pools that can be manufactured to any size and shape, and may include special water features.
The company, which has been in business for more than 35 years, has a network of agents throughout the country.
