Inside to the fore NZRIA Red Awards celebrate retail design

A picture is worth a thousand words the oldsaying reminds us that long before we had a written language, the primary source of communication was through imagery. The fact is, we remain highly visual beings, drawn to dynamic scenarios and bold design schemes.

The New Zealand Retail Interior Association (NZRIA) is the industry body that supports and promotes excellence in retail design, spokeswoman Rebekah Heal says.

"As the only professional organisation in the country dedicated to raising awareness and recognising the contribution of designers, shopfitters and suppliers to the retail industry, the NZRIA facilitates networking amongst professionals, as well as highlighting to consumers the role these individuals play in the retail market."

In addition to a comprehensive industry directory available to view on the company's website, retailers can also download a series of guides designed to assist them in determining and partnering with the appropriate designer, shopfitter and suppliers.

"The annual Red Awards are integral to what we do within the industry," says Heal. "Open to all New Zealand-based professional designers, the awards are a testament to the high level of design integrity in this country."

Submitted projects may be located anywhere in the world, with the only requirement being that they were completed within the 12 months prior to the competition entry date.

"There are 11 categories across the 4 groups, Nourishment, Leisure, Personal and Home, covering the gamut of retail design. This year we've received 47 entries; all of an outstanding quality."
