Originally a sterile concrete yard between two factories, this outdoor living space has been transformed by lush landscaping and Edgestone schist from Stutex Stone's Cerastone range
Even the most unlikely spaces can be transformed by good landscaping. For this project, it was a sterile factory yard that received a workover.
To create a lush, tranquil courtyard, the designer introduced a raised goldfish pond, set within a low wall of Edgestone schist from Stutex Stone. The schist, which has a Central Otago colouration, has been left to weather naturally. It also forms a backdrop to a small, moss-covered waterfall, which disguises a featureless section of concrete block wall.
The Edgestone schist wall is capped with Stutex Stone's sliced granite rock, which helps to visually anchor the wall within the overall landscape.
Lorraine Goudie of Stutex Stone says the transformation from barren concrete yard to exotic winter garden illustrates how simple stone accents and strategic planting can make all the difference.
"As this stone is lightweight, even the installation was simple," she says.
