In the mood

For many homeowners, a love of entertaining determines the design of their living areas. For the owner of the house featured on these pages, it was a factor that influenced the design of many rooms and an outdoor living area.

Interior designers Jacque Thornton and Jim Young of Jacqueline & Associates say creating the right atmosphere was essential. Mood lighting and the use of interesting materials and textures not only create an inviting ambiance, they also enhance the grand proportions of the house.

Special design features include a large, sand-blasted glass wall in the formal dining room that is illuminated with a changing dawn-to-dusk color palette. This room also features elaborate wood paneling and a vaulted ceiling.

A former 1000sq ft closet has been transformed into a traditional English gentleman's club, complete with dark-cherry paneling, wood floor, antique rug and wing chairs. The adjacent master bathroom, also shown, was recently named one of the 10 Best Bathrooms in the World by HGTV.
