Design inspiration can come from many sources, but one of the best ways to choose a new bathroom is to view the latest designer projects.

The Kohler Design Center is showcasing three new, fully appointed bathrooms: Caldera by Amy Lau, Country Spa by Clodagh and Fire & Ice by Beth Slifer. Each bathroom features Kohler products and Ann Sacks tiles.

Amy Lau, one of the country's leading interior designers, is renowned for her Modernist-style interiors, which are inspired by her love of nature and abstract art. Her projects are compositions balanced in scale, texture and color.

Lau's Caldera bathroom, shown above, was influenced by the intoxicating Mediterranean views from the hilltop village of Oia on the Greek island of Santorini. Visitors to the town stay in historic cave villas built into the cliffs.

The designer fashioned her own village ascent, providing a modest set of steps leading to the bath. On the top level, visitors are immersed in the serenity of the tub and fireplace, just as visitors to Oia are enchanted by the tranquil waters of the Caldera. Custom-designed tiles, which were also inspired by organic and op-art mosaics from the '60s and '70s, clad the cave-like interior.

Clodagh is an internationally renowned Irish-born designer who also likes to emphasize the inventive, sustainable use of materials. The Country Spa bathroom, featured on this page, reflects her interest in mixing technology with primitive materials. Her designs invariably create calm, low-maintenance bathrooms.

"Country Spa incorporates principles of feng shui and wabi-sabi, the Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in the passage of time," she says. "This intimate space, with its earth tones and sensual textures, is designed to envelop the user in a private world. The sound of gently bubbling water soothes the mind and activates the space."

The Zen-like luxury is enhanced by Kohler Purist and Escale suites, and products from Kallista and Clodagh's tile collections for Ann Sacks.

Beth Slifer, the designer of the Fire & Ice bathroom, shown above, heads Slifer Designs one of the nation's top three interior design firms since 1984, as ranked by Interior Design Magazine. The bathroom reflects designer Beth Slifer's interest in sustainable designs that create calm, serene living environments. Inspired by the intricate, delicate balances that exist within nature, Slifer blended natural, recyclable materials with the latest technology to create a retreat that both nurtures and rejuvenates the spirit.

The visual warmth provided by flickering candles and sustainable Mesquite wood tiles is balanced by the cool, pristine Kohler glass sinks. The showering area features a wall of recycled metal tiles that meets a reclaimed teak shower grate.
