In high style
The bathroom in this penthouse apartment has been given a crisp and minimal look by Elegant Bathroom Design Company
Creating a bathroom entirely from scratch sounds like any designer's dream brief. But when the bathroom is on the top level of a commercial building, there may also be a few challenges.
Designer Claire MacLean of Elegant Bathroom Design Company was asked to fit out the bathrooms and kitchen of a newly created penthouse apartment.
"We began with a clean slate, but we had to contend with 4.5m-high ceilings and solid concrete walls," she says.
"The owners wanted the bathrooms to be very simple and seamless looking, so we concealed most fittings, and created negative detailing on the vanity to avoid the need for door and drawer handles.
The bathroom includes an extra-large 2.1m-long Kos bathtub, a large double basin with two taps, a bidet, toilet, a shower in a glass enclosure, and generous storage and set-down space. Large mirrors above the vanity and behind the extra-tall towel rail enhance the spacious feeling.
To create a minimal look, Elegant limited the palette to three colours white for walls and wall tiles, Nova Blue limestone tiles on the floor, and chrome fittings.
