When developing a light, modern aesthetic for your kitchen, a single stand-out feature may be all it takes to set the scene. Introducing a translucent, functional, and highly durable glass art piece is one design solution.

Walter Gordinier Studios creates countertops and room dividers that have as much impact in an art gallery as they do contributing to the look of your kitchen.

Respected international artist Walter Gordinier's glassworks are seen in fashionable eateries and public spaces as well as at international gallery events. The artist's custom works can also be found in private residences.

"My pieces are often designed as a response to a client's own interests or ideas and sometimes they are inspired by my own personal experience," he says.

The main counter shown above provides a good example. This geometric centerpiece evokes the appearance of glaciers and the movement of tectonic plates, as perceived by Gordinier. The scale is large, with the counter being 2 inches deep, 20 inches wide and over 7ft in length.

"The subtle, changing play of light through colored glass has fascinated me all my life," says Gordinier. "In recent years, I developed engineering technologies to make my glassworks structurally sound. This means despite their light, translucent appearance, they are approved for use in the very bones of an architectural project."
