HuM Architects wins 2026 TIDA Australia Architect-designed Kitchen of the Year
Congratulations to HuM Architects, winner of the 2026 TIDA Australia Architect Kitchen of the Year – designed for a modern, entertainment-focused lifestyle
Designed for a busy family with a passion for entertaining, this home reimagines the kitchen as the central anchor of a modern lifestyle.
Fitting into a narrow site, the layout balances architectural constraints with an open-plan design that prioritises both connection and views.
The kitchen is flanked by a double-height meals area and a sweeping curved staircase that overlooks the pool.
To enhance the flow, the design emphasises seamless indoor-outdoor transitions, linking the heart of the home to an outdoor fireplace and BBQ zone.
Functionality was paramount, with a dual-access layout especially suitable for the children, and a butler’s pantry, which provides a base for day-to-day family meal preparation.
The aesthetic follows a refined, cohesive palette.
The light tones of the polished concrete floor are reflected in the colour selections for other interior materials, including stone and joinery in the living room and kitchen.
A neutral toned rear bench and splashback, strategically balanced with dark timber tones hiding integrated appliances, provides a backdrop for the subtly-veined island bench.
Finished with discreet LED lighting, elegant brass tapware, and sleek shadowline details, this design extends its sophisticated language throughout the entire home.
The TIDA judges were impressed with this thoughtful, practical and visually attractive space, that far exceeds the expectations of a modern, entertainment-focused lifestyle.
