IF A BUILDING is to stand the test of time, the materials used must literally be timeless, not just aesthetically, but in the way they interact with the environment over the decades perhaps centuries to come.
Specifying marble for the main entrance wall that runs from the street front of the Maritime Towers through sliding glass doors into the lobby is a virtual guarantee of success in looks and longevity.
Sourcing the right stone and installing it was a job for an experienced contractor. Mark Bramwell, director of Bramco Granite and Marble, imported the velvet finished Calcutta Oro marble from Italy and the Bramco team installed it to the exacting specifications of the architect's brief, which required all the marble veining to run in a continuous direction.
Intersected by the glass lobby doors and running right up to the black polished glass surrounding the elevator area, the white and grey marble panels present a smooth, almost seamless finish, despite the numerous joins the design required.
In addition, the company installed velvet-finished African grey granite from South Africa on the floor throughout the main entrance area.
Polished black granite imported from India was used to create the vanity tops in the bathrooms located on every floor. The granite was mitred to create the illusion of the vanity top as a single block with two vanity bowl cutouts.
