The bathroom has a locker room ambiance No matter how much we appreciate the benefits of modern technology in our homes, there is still a place for traditional detailing and craftsmanship. In this new home, for example, the Arts and Crafts movement provided the design inspiration. It's a style that enhances a welcome sense of retreat in the master suite, says architect and owner John Cordogan of Cordogan Clark & Associates, Aurora, IL."The interior of the house needed to be consistent with the Arts and Crafts theme," he says. "In the master suite, the high gabled ceiling, traditional French doors and paneled wainscoting help to create the sense of a private space."Cordogan says that while the overall design of the house is a modern interpretation of the original Arts and Crafts style, it still maintains the essence of the movement. With its Gabled ceiling, white-painted wainscoting and traditional furnishings, this master suite reflects a strong Arts and Crafts influence. His-and Hers bathrooms are positioned either side of the small hallway leading into the bedroom "There is a consistency in the detailing, from the height of the wainscoting and doors to the style of the fixtures and fittings," he says. This influence flows through to the his-and-hers bathrooms off the master bedroom. In his bathroom, fixtures and fittings have also been chosen for their traditional look."We went for plain, chrome fittings no gold or frills," says Cordogan. To further enhance the sense of a luxury retreat, her bathroom includes a spa bath and bidet. It also opens to a study, which Cordogan says is a private boudoir a place to escape the busy household. A natural walnut dresser in the second bathroom continues the Arts and Crafts influence. it features paneled doors and drawers, and an oilde walnut vanity top with an undermounted sink Cordogan Clark & Associates is a full-service architectural and engineering firm with a wealth of experience in residential and commercial design. For more information, contact Cordogan Clark & Associates, 960 Ridgeway Ave, Aurora, IL 60506, phone (630) 896 4678.
