ENSURING A comfortable and constant interior environment within any public building is one of the chief concerns facing the construction industry. It is not surprising therefore that the installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems requires experience and expertise.

With more than 25 years' commercial and industrial experience and associations with some of the country's foremost construction companies, Airco Service was contracted to install the HVAC system for Parnell College, says managing director Gordon Shute.

"Our role was to supply and install the HVAC system as per the engineer's specifications, and to incorporate the electrical and control elements of that into the automated building management system installed by Direct Control."

The incorporation of the system into the building management system allows for both onsite and offsite monitoring. Any adjustments needed to the HVAC system can then be made offsite, which allows for comprehensive control of the interior environment, says Shute.

Airco Service specified a Climaveneta main chiller plant for its extra quiet operation. Local companies Aquatherm and Temperzone supplied the boiler and fan coil units respectively, while the pumps were sourced from Ebsray and the fans from Fans Direct.

Shute says considerable time constraints impacted upon usual procedures, however a combination of Airco Service's extensive project experience and excellent teamwork ensured everything went to plan.

"In order to keep to the schedule set down by the main contractor, we had to maintain a dedicated onsite team for the duration of the project. Judicious management of the time constraints meant that we were able to complete the project within the programmed time and within budget."
