New appliance technology is not just transforming kitchens it's also changing lifestyles. And it can all be put down to higher intelligence, say the experts at Fisher & Paykel.

The company's latest appliances monitor their own performance to ensure they deliver the best results, says Laurence Mawhinney, Fisher & Paykel's vice president sales and marketing.

"The new Fisher & Paykel OB30 oven is indicative of the futuristic technology now coming on stream," he says. "This 30-inch model, which was released at KBIS this year, is not your typical oven. With its accurate and intelligent electronic temperature controls, the oven can adapt and determine the precise temperature required to deliver a consistent cooking result."

Mawhinney says the OB30 was built with the cook's needs in mind. The oven has numerous user-friendly features, nine cooking modes and a high-tech True Convection system for even heat distribution. It also has a large, 3.5cu ft capacity so you can cook several dishes simultaneously.

The easy-to-use controls incorporate illuminated color rings around the knobs. These change from red to white when the desired temperature has been reached.

Mawhinney says the OB30 is an ideal complement to the new 36-inch Fisher & Paykel CookSurface. This frameless black glass gas cooktop features retractable gas burners and pan supports. The three gas burners rise out of the cooking surface when the control knob is activated. When the burners and knobs are recessed, the cooktop presents a smooth, clutter-free surface that is easy to clean.

Other recent releases from Fisher & Paykel include the Active Smart French Door refrigerator, and the CookSurface, which features retractable burners.

Mawhinney says the Aero¢ burners' precise temperature control provides greatly improved cooking results. Variable-speed fans regulate the air flow, controlling the delicate balance between oxygen and gas levels.

Other recently released appliances from Fisher & Paykel include the Active Smart French Door refrigerator. As well as providing a spacious interior that is easy to access, the new French Door 20.1cu ft refrigerator/freezer boasts Fisher & Paykel's new Ice & Water technology.

Chilled filtered water flows from a flush-mounted water dispenser, and an internal ice maker can produce clean, crisp ice cubes on demand. Neither of these features compromises the internal storage space, unlike previous generation ice and water dispensers.

The on-door white backlit user interface enables access to all the Ice & Water features such as measured fill, freezer chill and bottle chill, simply and quickly.

The refrigerator also has an intelligent humidity control system designed to keep food fresher for longer.

Another new product from Fisher & Paykel is the 36-inch CoolDrawer, shown on these pages. The CoolDrawer is a natural extension of the company's renowned DishDrawer concept. This modular drawer refrigerator allows you to customize your refrigeration, and position it exactly where you need it. Mawhinney says the CoolDrawer has ergonomic benefits and also helps streamline meal preparation.

Tomorrow's kitchen today-the latest appliance technology from Fisher & Paykel is showcased in the new OB30 double oven. This kitchen also features an intergrated Double DishDrawer.

"But, most importantly, the refrigeration can be personalized at the simple touch of a button. The drawers can be programmed to freeze or chill food or wine at the desired temperature."

The drawers are available in stainless steel, or they can be fully integrated into kitchen cabinets for a seamless look.

Mawhinney says all the new appliances also reflect Fisher & Paykel's commitment to sustainable design and energy efficiency. Sustainable initiatives include the increased use of plastics and polycarbonates, which can be fully recycled.

"In addition, packaging is reused or recycled, which eliminates waste and reduces the amount of packaging that is dumped in landfill," says Mawhinney.

Minimizing the carbon footprint is another focus for the company all Fisher & Paykel appliances available in the United States are manufactured in Ohio.
