High impact Claudelands Events Centre - carpets by Godfrey Hirst NZ

Foot traffic through Claudelands was a key consideration when it came to choosing a flooring solution. Carpets needed to be highly durable and easy to maintain, and they also needed to meet Chow:Hill Architects specific design requirements for the different areas.

Godfrey Hirst NZ worked closely with the designers to provide a combination of standard and custom carpet tiles that would meet colour and texture requirements within stated parameters.

Commercial sales manager Varo Pasupati says one of the main challenges for the project involved marrying the design aesthetics with production capabilities. "We chose to work with solution-dyed nylon carpet fibre, sourced from Fibremakers, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Godfrey Hirst. This arrangement provides Godfrey Hirst with greater manufacturing flexibility in terms of colour, texture and production size."

For this project, there are nine different carpet tiles spread over four different ranges, some of which were specifically designed and manufactured for Claudelands. All the tiles feature solution-dyed nylon with Bioshield antimicrobial treatment and Stain Warden to resist staining.

All Godfrey Hirst tiles are graded ECS Level 4, which achieves 100% of GreenStar points from the NZ Green Building Council.
