Distinctive design elements are essential for large apartment developments they help determine the character and identity of a complex.

To enhance the exterior of the new Bayswater on the Park development in Townsville, architect Miles Blucher incorporated overhanging eaves and pavilion-style roof lines, reminiscent of Balinese architecture.

"This complex offers resort-style living, so the buildings have been designed to reflect a relaxed lifestyle," he says.

The long, corner site, developed by the Carmichael Group, is anchored at either end by the Bay View and Hillview apartment buildings. These offer a range of apartment types, including a penthouse and sub-penthouses. In between these buildings is an elevated landscaped deck, tranquil garden area and 25m lap pool.

As the apartments overlook a large porte cochére, an outdoor pavilion and smaller poolside buildings, the roofing selection was an important consideration, says Blucher.

To provide the necessary durability and a strong colour accent, CSR Roofing's Monier Cambridge concrete tiles in Welsh Black were specified. The flat surface and deckled nose gives the Cambridge a slate appearance, which complements the colonial plantation look of the complex.
