The tower's clean air and efficient air-conditioning was supplied by Hastie Air Conditioning
In a building prizing its Green Star accreditation, the air quality was an essential consideration. Hastie Air Conditioning filled the role as the mechanical design and construct contractor on the environmentally responsible Santos Place project.
Hastie's design brief included a performance requirement to design and install a mechanical solution for both air conditioning and ventilation systems to contribute to an overall building solution to meet the Grade A, Green Star and ABGR now known as Nabers Energy for Offices performance criteria.
The base building system comprised low temperature VAV, floor-by-floor facade and central zoned air handling units operating with swirl diffusers. The result is a minimum floor plate, highly flexible, low-energy and extremely comfortable air conditioning solution.
To meet ABGR performance criteria, thermal modelling of various systems and arrangements was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of each. Swirl diffusers were an essential component in the success of the installed system, as traditional louvre-faced diffusers would not allow the low supply air temperatures required by the design. The high induction performance of the installed Krantz RA-N3 diffusers has also resulted in an extremely even temperature distribution within the occupied spaces.
Levels 6 15 were leased by Aurecon Consulting Engineers, formerly Connell Wagner. Aurecon's senior mechanical engineer supervising the fit-out installation, Simon Marsden, commented on the comfort levels experienced in the building.
"One of the contributing factors to the successful fit-out design and installation has been Hastie's attention to detail with the air diffusion design and diffuser selection," says Marsden. "This has resulted in comfortable and consistent internal environment conditions throughout and contributed considerably to a fresh and pleasing working environment for our staff."
