Healthy choice
Chic, contemporary looks and eco-friendly principles are combined in kitchens from Blue Plum Design
Kitchens of any style or design can be healthy and good for the environment if they are built using eco-friendly materials and methods.
Scott Martin of Blue Plum Design says that, from an architectural viewpoint, green cabinetry is not a design style.
"Rather, a green kitchen is the result of the material selection. You can have a high-styled kitchen that is also healthy for you and the environment. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive," he says.
Any design is possible, and the kitchen featured here is a good example of modern green cabinetry, says Martin.
The cabinets were made from materials that do not give off toxic levels of formaldehyde or volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Instead, Blue Plum Design uses case material that is SCS- and EPP-certified to be 100% pre-consumer recycled wood fiber particleboard and has no urea formaldehyde added during the manufacturing process, and uses only water-based stains and finishes.
Kitchens from Blue Plum Design combine products with low emission standards, certified recycled content and sustainable raw materials.
"In addition to being healthy, these green kitchens can also be affordable," says Martin.
