The polished, modern appearance of Saunders Wharf is due in part to the weathered zinc cladding and aluminium composite panels used on the exterior.

Townsend Group was responsible for the design, engineering, manufacture and installation of these, as well as the stainless steel cladding on the walls of the lobby areas both in Saunders Wharf and the office building next door.

Jim Sinclair, general manager of contracts for the company, says the Saunders Wharf project came with inherent challenges.

"The complex nature of the building structure meant we had to do some quite detailed work to meet the architectural requirements," he says.

The company's extensive range of architectural metal work includes louvres, sunshades, facade systems, ceiling systems, glass structures, balustrades, handrails, ducted skirting and adjustable door and window frames. Fire protection screens, awnings and porticos are also available.

Townsend Group operates out of high-tech premises near Sydney.

"Our manufacturing equipment is mainly CAD/CAM driven. We are also equipped with all the latest high-technology developments in CNC machinery and robotics," says Sinclair.
