While the kitchen, dining and seating areas are open plan, the owners wanted to be able to close off certain rooms, such as the formal lounge. They wanted the framing and many of the doors to have the same warm wood tones used elsewhere. This project therefore required a considerable amount of specialist joinery.

Garland Builders appointed Glenn Haszard of Papakura Joinery for this project.

"We have used Papakura Joinery for many years," says Murray Garland. "We regularly require joinery or mouldings that are out of the ordinary, exotic or just plain challenging, and Papakura Joinery have always had the resources, expertise and willingness to meet our requirements," he says.

While all the skirtings, mouldings, internal doors and architraves were made by Papakura Joinery from jarrah, a certain amount of colour matching had to be done.

"Although it's all the same species you do have to look carefully at the grain and match one piece to another," says Glenn Haszard.
