Greener pastures

The green nature of the fit-out and the provision of an internal staircase were two major factors for the installers on the Cardno project.

Valle Commercial Interiors undertook the complete fit-out of Cardno's four upper floors in Green Square North Tower, says managing director John Valle.

"We constructed all office areas from floor coverings through to ceilings," says Valle. "This involved meticulous attention to detail and work was completed in accordance with all architectural and engineering drawings.

"Another important aspect of the Cardno job was co-ordinating all the subtrades involved in constructing this multi-level office space."

Time was also a significant factor, as Valle worked to an initial time frame of only 10 weeks. Given the work that was to be completed over 10,000m² of office space fit-out and the cutting-out of the internal staircase this was a considerable challenge.

"Before the staircase could be installed, we had to cut through concrete slabs on three levels while the building was partially tenanted," says Valle. "This was completed in three weeks, by working almost around the clock and liaising closely with subcontractors and associated companies both on and off site. In addition, all elements had to be delivered to the floors by the building elevator, then assembled on site.

"With a concerted effort from everyone, we were able to achieve an 11-week handover."

The other important aspect was the green component to be expected in a building with a 5-Star Green Star rating. Nearly 95% of the products used for the fit-out are environmentally friendly, which was necessary to comply with Green Square North Tower's enviable environmental rating, Valle says.
