Green rolling paradise
The civil engineering works had to be seamlessly integrated into the surroundings. Cardno ensured the project had minimal impact on the surround waterways
Installing the road and water services for 40 residences tucked between the 12th and 17th fairways of a well-frequented golf course required an exercise in environmental best practises as well as a close sense of timing and co-ordination.
Civil engineer Cardno was responsible for the design, approvals, project management and construction supervision for the civil works at Visage. The work included roads, underground services and structural features for the development, says manager Shane Gesch.
"As the site is located between two fairways, we had to complete the works with only minimal disturbance to the resort and golfing operations," he says. "An example is the care given to retain mature trees throughout the site. Roads were specifically contoured to avoid disturbing root mass systems, which would have endangered the trees."
"Another focus of this project was the high standard of storm water run-off required as this is filtered back into the resort's ponds and streams. Swales, gravel filters and a detention basin that allows sediment to drop from the water all played a part in keeping water to a pristine quality."
