When you are committed to sustainability, it's reflected in every decision you make and every product you choose for your home.

This pavilion-style beach house in Victoria is a case in point. Co-owned by four principals of architectural firm SJB Australia and M4D a management for design firm the house was extensively remodelled for use by staff, with an emphasis on sustainability and efficiency.

The house is designed to shade itself and breathe cross ventilation avoids the need for air conditioning for much of the year. The majority of the existing pole house structure was reused to minimise waste. The design team also specified solar pool heating, low-energy lamps and high-efficiency fittings and appliances.

The kitchen features a number of Smeg products that make it well equipped to cater to a crowd, including the Smeg 90cm SA20XMFR Classic single oven in satin stainless steel, 90cm PSA906 Classic low-profile gas cooktop, P70-2 undermount rangehood, PL8210X semi-integrated dishwasher, SA37X built-in traditional microwave and LSTQ862 Smeg double sink.

Director Tony Battersby says there was no question SJB would specify Smeg products for the house. The firm has had a long-standing relationship with Smeg, and has often specified Smeg appliances for its apartment projects.

"Aesthetically, these appliances fit with our own brand they complement the architecture of the houses and apartments we design. Smeg is also a trusted brand that provides longevity. And we appreciate the service and support we have always received from Smeg."
