When a client seems to ask for the impossible, it can be the stimulus for a result that exceeds all expectation.

"An all-marble powder room was the request," says designer Jon Hattaway of MJ Berries Design. "In a small room, such a grand material could feel claustrophobic. But it has turned out to be just a jewel of a space."

The designer says he was careful to select furnishings with a legitimate presence.

"The vanity is a Victorian washstand perfect both in its function and its era. Similarly, the mirror is of the period the candles are real, not electric copies and the chandelier is the finishing touch of opulence to the overall scheme."
