Glittering prize open plan addition to classic Kiwi bungalow by Yellowfox
Open plan addition to classic Kiwi bungalow by Yellowfox
Many older houses, built in line with the great Kiwi dream of a quarter-acre section, are now ripe for updating to meet the contemporary yen for indoor-outdoor flow.
Architect Brian Trubovich was commissioned by the owners of this bungalow to provide them with an open-plan addition that would link the existing house seamlessly with the backyard.
The transition successfully achieved, the result is a traditional family-friendly house with a modern feel. Turning the house into a home was next on the agenda.
Yellowfox designer Vikki Gorton came up with a modern classic look for the kitchen.
"The clients had asked for a freestanding range, which lends a traditional feel by its looks alone. Clean-lined cabinetry acts as a foil to the range, countering some of its bulk, while stainless steel for the benchtop links it with the modern appliances."
On-bench cabinets provide storage for small appliances, maintaining the streamlined aesthetic, and a sliding door conceals a step-in pantry with further storage.
The finishing touches are a shimmering splashback made from metallic-finish mosaic tiles and two chandelier-like pendant lights.
"With such a neutral base palette, it was important to add a touch of wow to the overall scheme, and the splashback is an eye-catching addition to a sleek space," says Gorton.
Yellowfox prides itself on its strong associations with well-known companies in the building sector. If the company is unable to provide an item or service to its clients, it can refer them to a relevant specialist.
