WHILST The exteriors of The Base provide a welcoming sight to visitors and shoppers, the interiors are equally well-conceived and executed. Alpha Interiors Waikato manager Alastair Druett outlines the diversity and breadth of the work involved by just one single fit-out company.

"We provided Naylor Love with construction costings based on preliminary design information, as well as construction documents direct from the Noel Leeming Group," he says. "We offered both prompt pricing and construction. The scope of our physical work on The Base involved construction of interior walls and suspended ceilings for a majority of the shop interiors at times even installing doors, hardware, shelving, and custom curtain rails to the changing rooms."

The Base's architect-nominated mesh ceilings, gloss MDF ceilings and complex curved bulkheads all demonstrate the breadth of Alpha Interiors' construction know-how. Multi-level architectural ceilings were also undertaken by the company, together with the construction of specifically designed four-storey steel stud walls for the upscale project.

In keeping with the forward-looking nature of the The Base, Alpha introduced innovative products to some elements of its involvement.

"For example, on the NZ Post Building we em-ployed a Speedwall product that is new to this country," Druett says. "This economical fire and acoustic wall system was appropriate to stringent fire safety ratings required by the client."
