For this kitchen, in an Upper Hutt home designed and built by David Reid Homes, it was a collection of red pendant lights that inspired the look and colour scheme.Kitchen designer Peter Young of Waikanae Kitchen and Joinery, says the client wanted a bright red Resene Scarlett coloured glass splashback to match the pendants. To complement this vibrant accent the cabinets feature Melteca Rock Salt in Naturale. Perimeter benchtops are in Decor #9 stainless steel, with the island top in steel grey granite. As with every kitchen in homes built by David Reid Homes, the selection of appliances was just as critical as the finishes. Tim Sunderland, managing director of David Reid Homes Wellington Region, says the company prefers to specify Smeg appliances."A high-end home, such as this, needs to be matched by high-quality appliances," he says. "There is always an expectation that the kitchen will be equipped with top-of-the-line appliances that feature the latest technology. This new home was no exception. Although it was designed and built for a specific client, it is open as a show home while the owner is overseas. The client was very happy with our recommendation for Smeg appliances." Centrepiece of the collection is the Smeg SNZ90MFX stainless steel freestanding range. This 90cm-wide range features a five-burner gas cooktop with electronic ignition. The cental ultra-rapid burner is a large and versatile burner that is well suited to large stock pots, boilers, saucepans and griddles. A wok stand is supplied, which can be fitted over the centre trivet for stir-fry cooking. The cooktop also features a rapid burner, auxiliary burner and two semi-rapid burners. The fan-forced oven uses a fan and a circular element to provide uniform heat distribution with no cold spots. This means different foods can be cooked on several shelves at the same time, without transference of smells or flavours. There is also no need to preheat the oven with this cooking mode, which is one of several options. Standard accessories include a chrome shelf, pot stands, a roasting and grill pan and a Teflon oven tray. The range is paired with the KB17090 90cm stainless steel rangehood. The low-profile design of this rangehood and its extra-quiet motor make it unobtrusive in the kitchen. Two halogen lights illuminate the cooktop.Other Smeg appliances specified for this kitchen include a side-by-side refrigerator and a 60cm stainless steel dishwasher. All Smeg dishwashers feature an orbital wash system that ensures an effective and efficient wash each time. In this house, designed by David Reid Homes, they have used Smeg appliances.
