A successful development project requires careful cost management .

Maintaining a complete financial picture of any development is the role of the project's quantity surveyor, and such cost management exercises are always extremely complex.

Davis Langdon provided cost management services to Deloitte and BNZ for their individual office fit-outs at 80 Queen Street. Initially, this involved a global budget evaluation and costing, derived from the company's extensive database, compiled from involvement in many of Auckland's significant fit-outs over the last 15 years. Later, more concise cost plan budgets were done as layouts and designs were refined, and the Davis Langdon team worked with designers contracted to both companies to balance extra costs with possible savings.

The scope of service covered all cost management aspects of the project, working with base building contractors and analysing, negotiating and reporting on tenders for the sub-divisional hard fit-out. Davis Langdon also provided budgeting, cost and tender advice, and financial administration and reporting. Monitoring of scope and budgets helped clients balance interior design and business outputs against a wise financial spend. Monthly financial reports covered all physical works including audiovisual and data communications, fees, direct contracts, suppliers, signage and graphics, to provide a complete financial picture of the fit-out works.
