With the changing face of holiday destinations in New Zealand, new alternatives to the traditional Kiwi bach are available.

Architect Grant Neil's concept for the Mooring Schooner apartments incorporates the ease of apartment living with convenient access to the open sea. Access is via the canals that make up the Whitianga Waterways, says Paul Shanahan, from Hopper Developments.

"Imagine getting out of bed, pulling back the curtains and looking out onto your boat, moored metres away at your own private jetty. This scenario may sound improbable, but this new development puts the emphasis on this lifestyle."

The four canal-side apartments are set on a 1400m² site. Each features ground floor water access, full riparian rights, a shared private jetty with berth for a 10m vessel.

A trailerboat can easily be stored in the 8.5m long double garage with water access provided by a private boat launching ramp.

Two and three bedroom apartments, 180m² and 200m² respectively, are available. The focus on lifestyle means all units are built from durable, low-maintenance materials. There are no lawns to mow and no other significant amount of maintenance to consider.
