It may seem obvious, but first and foremost, kitchens are places where food preparation is the priority. Secondly, the kitchen is probably the most important family room in the house. When designing a kitchen, focusing on the interactions with people and food can put you in good stead for achieving a successful design.

Dream Kitchens specializes in creating kitchens that incorporate fine aesthetics with the functionality expected by experienced cooks, says the company's president, Rick Glickman.

The kitchens on these pages show the diversity of styles Dream Kitchens can achieve. Glickman, who has more than 25 years' experience in the industry, works alongside a team of professionals who contribute expertise in traditional, contemporary and European design styles. The contemporary kitchen above was designed by Dream Kitchens, in collaboration with a local architect. It features sleek European lines and light-colored oak cabinetry.

"It's all about organizing everything has its place," says Glickman.

All cabinets feature adjustable cutlery dividers, plate holders, rollouts and pot-and-pan dividers. The aluminum tambour cabinet rolls up to reveal small appliances and storage shelves, while extra storage is provided by a deep double-door pantry.

The second kitchen, which features burnished cherry cabinetry, was tailor-made for a client who appreciates traditional styling, yet lives in a modern home. The design bridges the gap between modern and traditional, with clean lines and angles that create additional living space, improve functionality and add storage.

"Dream Kitchens is known for its use of angles," says Glickman. "Here, they help delineate zones, allowing different cooks to work without obstruction. Angling the sink allows the cook to see the views through the large window, and talk to family in the great room close by."

Other features that contribute to the flow of the space include an integrated 42in refrigerator and storage that keeps small appliances accessible, but hidden.

"Creativity and flexibility are hallmarks of our work, along with the ability to personalize designs for the needs of our clients," says Glickman. "Our team offers consultation, design, and installation of kitchens. To make things easy, we display a full range of quality products at our Skokie showroom, so it functions as a one-stop design center for buyers."
