When the owners acquired this 1980s house five years ago, the setting was idyllic 20ha of woodland, complete with its own private lake.

"Our brief was to optimise the home's views, bring the floor plan together and give the interiors a contemporary, day-to-day relevance," he says. "The transformation can be seen from the home's entrance, which was modified to create a dramatic impression. We also removed the existing dado walls and added a clean plastered finish."

Originally, the interior comprised the entry and formal lounge in the middle, bedrooms to the west, and living to the east. Moving the kitchen to the centre, Graeme Alexander created a walkway along the side of the home facing the lake, connecting the kitchen and living room with the formal lounge, entry and bedrooms. As a result, the entire run of interior spaces is spacious, sunny and welcoming.

Replastering, painting and introducing new light fittings, blinds, joinery and heating systems have all contributed to transforming the home.
