It's often the smallest rooms that provide the greatest challenge when it comes to design especially when functionality is just as important as good looks.

But whether you are planning a new powder room, or an expansive master suite, it pays to talk to a member of the National Kitchen & Bathroom Association (NKBA). Not only are NKBA members fully up with the play in terms of the latest trends and products, they also know exactly how to make the best use of available space.

Cathy Sparling, CKD, NKBA MidWest president, says that as well as designers, the association includes contractors and manufacturers who can help build your new bathroom or kitchen.

"The association promotes professionalism among all its members and affiliated trades," Sparling says. "It monitors standards, and fosters excellence in design, manufacture and installation. This means homeowners can rest assured they are dealing with a highly trained and experienced professional."

Sparling says hiring an NKBA member will also save you money in the long run by avoiding costly and time-consuming mistakes. There can be other cost savings as well, with members able to source products at competitive rates.

The expertise of its members is highlighted by the annual NKBA Design Competition, with awards presented annually at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS). Projects are judged on safety, functionality and visual appeal.
