Traditional handcraft techniques live on
The traditional craftsmanship highlighted by the exterior of the 675 West Paces Ferry homes, is just as much in evidence on the interior. The fireplaces, for example, feature custom Scagliola stone mantels.
Handcrafted by Frane§ois & Co, Scagliola stone is a blend of crushed marble, limestone and travertine. The stone is similar to the scagliola originally formulated by impoverished Italian monks in the 17th century, who found the aggregate mix was indistinguishable from original stone.
Owner and founder Thierry Frane§ois says Scagliola stone has the look and texture of hand-carved quarry stone, and an elegance that is reminiscent of the Italian Renaissance period.
Frane§ois & Co recently unveiled a new 9000sq ft, New York-style showroom in the Galleries of Peachtree Hills, Atlanta. The showroom houses the company's newest collection of limestone mantelpieces, which are hand carved by French artisans and identical to antique French mantels from the Provence region of France.
