Window and door joinery is the architectural jewellery of any home. Choosing the right hardware will help draw the house design together and provide a dramatic framework for the scenery at the same time.

Ellison's Aluminium fabricates and supplies joinery systems for a variety of domestic and commercial uses, says director Nick Cooke.

"Options include the flexible Fairview, the Evolution series and the Architectural series all custom manufactured in Ellison's factory from the enduring, anodised or powder-coated aluminium supplied by Aluminium Systems."

The Architectural series was chosen for this house, by architects Mason & Wales. There were several advantages in specifying this strong, chunky series both aesthetic and pragmatic.

"Available in several powder-coated hues, the Architectural series was selected in Iron Sand here as it connects with elements of the landscape and provides a framing reference that accentuates the coastal views," says Cooke.

The owners were also keen on the look of shutters both for cross ventilation and to set off the board and batten-style residence. The Architectural series provides for this option and both cedar and glazed louvres feature in the completed home.
