Framing the landscape

Window and door joinery is the architectural jewellery of any home. Choosing the right hardware will help draw the house design together and provide a dramatic framework for the scenery at the same time.

The Architectural series was chosen for this house, by architects Mason & Wales. There were several advantages in specifying this strong, chunky series both aesthetic and pragmatic.

"Available in several powder-coated hues, the Architectural series was selected in Iron Sand here as it connects with elements of the landscape and provides a framing reference that accentuates the coastal views," says Cooke.

The owners were also keen on the look of shutters both for cross ventilation and to set off the board and batten-style residence. The Architectural series provides for this option and both cedar and glazed louvres feature in the completed home.

The massive panes of glass that effectively wall the spaces are heavy and the Architectural series has wide glazing pockets to address this.
