Fowler Homes Christchurch wins 2021 TIDA New Zealand Group Home Builder of the Year
Congratulations to Ivan Stanicich of Fowler Homes Christchurch, winner of TIDA New Zealand Group Home Builder of the Year. Find out more about this coastal home with a view
This inviting timber-clad coastal Christchurch home picks up on forms of bygone seaside cottages, with its asymmetrical gable forms accentuated by negative spaces between them.
The home is elevated on timber piles, reminiscent of a jetty projecting into the sea, and is anchored to the land and rocks by a concrete block garage.
Working within a long narrow site, the design features a sheltered central courtyard through which the bedroom space overlooks the pool and has views out to sea.
Living spaces are linked via glazing, also ensuring access to estuary views from the rear of the home.
The use of natural cedar cladding complements the surrounding tussock Port Hills, while the deep rich black roofing and joinery frames the views.
The TIDA judges felt that all the elements of this property – the architectural design, choice of materials, interiors and landscaping – come together to create a sense of harmony throughout a beautifully detailed home.
