A new Clive Christian kitchen provided the starting point Kitchen with white traditional style cabinetry, spice drawers, marble countertop, and large cooktop and oven. Revealing the original character of an older home is a common theme for a remodeling project. But while a new kitchen may replicate an older style, it also needs modern-day functionality and convenience. It's a design challenge that Clive Christian Kitchens handles with ease, as this project illustrates.Designer Alona Sahar, of Clive Christian San Francisco, and co-designer Shelley Gordon worked closely with the homeowners, who wanted a kitchen that was both beautiful and comfortable."The kitchen needed to complement the architectural style of the former summer house built in 1911," says Sahar. "And it needed to cater to an active family with three young daughters." View of kitchen with furniture style cabinets, large island with marble and timber countertop, white cabinetry, and timber flooring As the owners had enjoyed a Clive Christian kitchen in their former home, they wanted the benefits of a similar kitchen in their new home.Edwardian-style cabinetry was specified, but this was personalized to suit the specific needs of the family."We wanted the kitchen to have an unfitted look," says Gordon. "For this reason, the island is painted green, while the rest of the cabinets are white. The turned legs also add a furniture look, which is in keeping with the theme."Gordon says the biggest challenge was working with the large space ensuring the correct proportions of the cabinets, and making the kitchen easy to work in. As well as an integrated refrigerator and dishwasher, there are pull-out pantries, sliding wicker vegetable baskets, and spice drawers concealed within cabinets. The fireclay sink on the island is positioned so the owner has a good view of the adjacent family room. Bar seating also reflects the family emphasis and the role of this kitchen as the hub of the home. For more details, contact Clive Christian San Francisco, phone (415) 522 1910.
