Focus on detail

With the addition of texture, detail and a few luxurious extra features, an ordinary bathroom can be transformed into a special place.

For this project, Insignia Kitchen and Bath Design Group designer Terry Kenney added a new master bathroom, using the architects' concept plans. Kenney detailed the room based on the owner's vision, and added details to create a space the owners now say feels like a hotel bathroom.

The tub was close to the windows, so Kenney placed it on a raised floor to take advantage of natural light and views.

Extra details such as a shower seat and mosaic tiles create a warm, inviting shower niche with a separate drying area.

Two matching vanity units provide the owners with their own areas. These include countertop cabinets and drawers for storing linen and personal items.Sconce fittings over the mirrors ensure good lighting.

Tumbled marble mosaics and honed limestone floor and wall tiles add texture, while gold, cream and brown tones bring warmth to the room. Opposite the shower a TV installed on a swivelling arm can be viewed from the vanity and tub.
