FIRE protection
A custom fire engineering design was required for the new mixed-use Anvil Chester Consultants provided the adroit solution
Anvil slots into a tight urban site. This fact, and the building's unusual structural makeup, required specialist fire engineering.
Chester Consultants provided fire engineering design for the overall building. Director Gary Chester says the objective was to provide a building that would give the occupants a high degree of safety in escaping the building in the event of a fire, and at the same time, comply with the New Zealand Building Code and Auckland Council requirements.
"Constraining factors required a custom approach to the project. The client required glazing very close to a side boundary in order to maintain the open glazing within the offices. This required a special sprinkler design to allow the glazing to be closer to the boundary than normal."
Sprinklers were used throughout the building, with precast concrete walls within the interior creating separate fire-rated areas for the different levels.
Chester Consultants is an established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy working on projects ranging from multi-level commercial or industrial buildings to new infrastructure projects, land developments, and subdivisional works.
