Finishing touch

Good design is more than visual. It's also about the things you can't see, such as the construction mechanics and use of materials that contribute to the design's overall appeal. Blanco's kitchen appliances are more than attractive work horses; each is an integral design element that makes spending time in the kitchen a much more enjoyable experience, says Major Electrical Appliances national marketing manager Nicholas Cook.

"Designing a fully functioning kitchen with quite limited space becomes quite a challenge. Hence, integration becomes a major part of the design layout," says Cook.

The Blanco range allows designers to make a consistent statement in the kitchen. The sink is the most important work station. The designer of this featured kitchen started by selecting a Blanco sink for its space efficiency.

"The Blanco modular sink range allows you to retain as much of your benchtop as possible," he says.

"This sink is part of a series conceived with ergonomic work flows in the kitchen in mind. The compact sink demonstrates maximum functionality especially in small kitchens," says Cook.

The sink is a single, modular unit, contrasting with the stone benchtop. It has a slightly commercial feel, with its bold stainless steel fascia panel and a sleek minimalist drainer design.

The kitchen's other appliances are also made by Blanco, creating a consistent theme.

"Blanco sinks and cooktops have been designed so that the shape of your cooktop matches that of your sink. The designer did not want bulky gas trivets or knob controls, opting for the touch-control Ceran cooktop and separate Blanco oven with microwave, complete with trim kit," says Cook.

The semi-integrated Blanco dishwasher has seven-wash programmes, a triple A water rating, dirt and load detection, two-star energy rating, and condenser drying. It is easy to load because it has quick-lift baskets that can be placed in one of two height positions and are easily adjusted even when fully loaded.

"The designer's decision to complete this kitchen with Blanco products creates a synergy of design which stays true to simplistic, clean objectives," says Cook.

Stainless steel finishes on all the appliances complement the neutral tones of the kitchen.
