With its distinctive sail motif, Lumley Centre was conceived as a large-scale sculptural element for downtown Auckland

Peddle Thorp's design for the curtainwall total cladding required two distinct shades of blue glass. These were sourced by Thermosash Commercial after a worldwide search of glass processors. The glass had to provide an acceptable solution that would meet the architect's aesthetic approval and also all shading and insulation design requirements.

Managing director of Thermosash Commercial David Hayes says the curtainwall is manufactured from the company's PW1000 curtainwall suite, with new extrusions being designed to meet structural specifications and the use of 32mm-thick high performance IGU glass units.

"An integral design of the facade was the sloping anodised aluminium elements and feature corners, which were pre-assembled at our Glenfield facility," says Hayes. "The complete facade was designed, manufactured and glazed in Glenfield and shipped to site in specially designed curtainwall delivery crates."
