Given the scale of the project, the logistics of air-conditioning the tower were complex. Economech Services, one of the country's largest air conditioning companies, undertook the job. Economech's diverse industry history made the multi-faceted task easier, says director Alan Drake."Two air handling units were installed, one on level 13, pumping air upwards through the floors, and another on level 29, blowing air downwards," says Drake. "The upper plant was particularly complex, with allowances being made for ducts, beams, walkways and service areas, all knitted into a limited air space." The company used CAD 3D drawings to create intricate design models that also guided installation throughout. The air handling units deliver chilled air to all levels, which are then individually controlled by terminal variable air volume units on each floor.
