Solid wall construction, consummate roofing and intelligently designed, open-plan layouts are all expected from today's new homes. The basics are important, but not everything. The finer points that make life easier for an owner should also be expected as standard.

As a home builder, Perceptions places an emphasis on the fine details, says sales administration manager Alicja Wojcik.

"Leading edge design and the highest standard of construction are central to all our homes, but right down to the smallest elements, nothing is overlooked," she says.

The home shown here, The Horizon, is from the company's range of single storey homes. Its solid construction includes double-clay brick insulation, an enduring Zincalume roof and low-maintenance Blokpaved driveway.

In terms of layout, The Horizon offers many design features, such as an open-plan family area overlooking a courtyard and alfresco dining area. This also has direct access from the kitchen making the home well-suited to outdoor entertaining.

Other standout elements of the house include a generous ensuite, a home theatre, and individual built-in wardrobes.

The home has three bedrooms and a fourth optional bedroom or office space. There is a double garage with remote control and hi-tech security systems.

Even energy efficiency and insects receive a focus in the home. A 305L Sunheat solar hot water system comes with on-demand gas boost and there are flyscreens on all windows and sliding doors.

The Horizon's well-appointed, galley-style kitchen features enduring Corian® benchtops and labour-saving appliances from Kleenmaid. These include an electronic programmable control oven and five-burner gas cooktop. Both the modern-look oven and cooktop offer diverse cooking options and several child safety features important aspects of family life.

To clear the air during cooking, there is a Kleenmaid stainless steel wall-mounted canopy rangehood, while a 13-place setting, freestanding dishwasher comes into its own after the family meal is over. The dishwasher offers eight wash programs including auto wash to reduce water consumption. The dishwasher also has a safety emphasis, with anti-overflow and anti-leak systems, and a child safety keypad lock.
