Often, our busy lives make it a challenge to find a quiet place where we can escape and relax. And to unwind with your partner can sometimes seem almost impossible.

When designer Xiao Yang Lu of the Expo Design Center, Union, NJ, renovated her clients' master bath, she achieved this by including a Steamist steam shower large enough for two. For her design, Xiao Yang Lu won the 2004 Steamist Annual Design Competition, which is open to Expo designers in the USA.

"The owners of this home wanted a bathroom retreat that included a tub, glass bowls, a separate make-up area and most importantly, a steam environment where the husband and wife could relax together.

"Steamist specializes in steam systems and the clients insisted on having only the best. They also wanted a wide choice of control panels, which Steamist was able to provide," says Xiao Yang Lu.

To achieve this, she doubled the size of the shower, added a bench seat and used large expanses of clear glass for the shower enclosure.
