In terms of interior design, the greater the surface area, the larger the impact. With this in mind, expanses of walls and cabinetry can make or break your kitchen's decor. To give your surfaces the design advantage, it pays to choose a product that stands out from the crowd.

Ameron manufactures a range of specialist surface coatings, formulated to look good and withstand the general wear and tear of kitchen life, says sales manager Wayne Martin.

"Working closely with designers, Ameron is able to provide specifications on product systems that meet a designer's exact objective," says Martin.

Two kitchens making effective use of Ameron surfaces are featured here; the first was created by Frances Robinson Design.

"The clients liked the Japanese influence so I reflected this in the choice of material and cabinetry finishes," says Robinson. "Ameron High Gloss Black Lacquer's highly reflective properties made it an appropriate choice and the owners love it. A painted glass splashback and Absolute black granite bench surfaces completed this lustrous look."

Ameron SuperCat 777HS Acid Cat was used for both the kitchen cabinetry and an adjacent bar. The high-gloss finish was chosen for its strong visual impact, practicality and durability.

"Ameron finishes allowed us to achieve exactly the colour we wanted," says Robinson. "The coatings are consistent, batch to batch, providing a reliable finish. This is one of the many product advantages favoured by designers."

The second kitchen shown on these pages also benefits from introducing Ameron Coatings as a wow factor.

The owner's brief to Celia Visser Design was to design a modern kitchen with a semi-formal air and an effective balance of non-symmetrical elements.

"First impressions were crucial when designing this eye-catching kitchen," says Visser. "The design's success lies not only in the practical function of the space but also in the subtle yet dramatic colour scheme. This created balance between the space's two distinct elevations.

"In a sea of ebony and ivory, vivid splashes of red draw the eye from the island to the back wall."
